Marta Macho, editor of the digital space Mujeres con Ciencia of the Chain in Scientific Culture, has been awarded the Women in Science Award in the category of Divulgation by the magazine Muy Interesante.
This award was presented at a ceremony during the Science Fest event on 18 November, now in its third edition, which recognises and supports the work of researchers who dedicate part of their efforts to the dissemination and popularisation of science in order to improve scientific culture in society. The jury, made up of prominent scientists and science communicators in Spain, has underlined her work in the support, visibility and promotion of women scientists, as well as her research career and her extensive outreach work.

A mathematician and specialist in Geometric Theory of Foliations and Non-commutative Geometry, Professor Macho is also the editor of the blog Mujeres con Ciencia (Women with Science), part of the UPV/EHU Chair of Scientific Culture since 2014, and a member of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists (AMIT). Her scientific and dissemination activities have earned her awards such as the Medal of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (2015), the Emakunde Award for Equality (2016) and the title of Illustrious Member of Bilbao (2019). In 2018, he participated in the documentary «The awakening of the scientific vocation» of the Appointments with Science campaign.
In the words of José Antonio Sacristán, director of the Lilly Foundation and secretary of the jury for this award, «the impact of Marta Macho’s initiatives to give visibility to women scientists throughout history in culture is very remarkable, as well as the quality, creativity and originality with which the topics in «Women with Science» are approached. Likewise, her commitments and activities at a local level make her a benchmark in the implementation of initiatives that break down barriers between science and the general public».
