Cyber Surgery, a company based in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, has launched the first surgical robotic assistant with CE marking and patented kinematic navigation technology for spinal surgery. Its next major goal is to introduce this technology to the US market.

The company was founded in 2017 in San Sebastián after originating in 2013 as an advanced research spin-off of Egile Mechanics. In less than a decade, it has established itself as an innovative company in the field of medical technology. Clinical trials began in 2022 at leading hospitals, and in recent years, it has obtained ISO 13485 certification and CE marking.

Cyber Surgery operates in the field of orthopedic and trauma surgery. Its solutions are aimed at hospitals and clinics that perform spinal surgeries, such as spinal fusions, scoliosis repairs, and fracture repairs, as well as healthcare professionals such as neurosurgeons and trauma surgeons. Its main target markets are Europe and the United States.

Among their upcoming challenges is obtaining FDA certification to access the US market and further their international expansion. They also plan to develop modular robotic platforms for various surgical procedures and integrate artificial intelligence into surgical planning and the digital connectivity of operating rooms.

Their flagship product is ALAYA, a robotic assistant specializing in the insertion of transpedicular screws in the lumbar and thoracic spine. Key features include 3D surgical planning, precise guidance during the procedure, reduced X-ray exposure, and the ability to perform minimally invasive surgeries.
