Giideba, innovative technology to prevent and treat bedsores and venous thrombosis

Posted on octubre 17, 2024octubre 17, 2024 by BasqueScience

‘Giideba Salud’ specializes in offering innovative and effective solutions for the prevention and treatment of bedsores in patients at moderate to high risk. The idea for the company was born in Argentina from the experience of its founder, a specialist in the development of natural textiles.

Natalia Andrea Romero (founder of the company) detected a problem in the health sector through her mother, a nurse who works with elderly and terminal cancer patients. She noticed that while there were more than 250 products available to cure bedsores, there were no effective options to prevent them. This finding sparked Romero’s interest in researching this niche market for 10 years and he validated his product with more than 100 patients.

The result was the creation of a specialized textile to prevent bedsores and a second evolutionary product with nanotechnology that is designed to accelerate recovery from these injuries once they appear. Romero also developed a programmed stimulation mat that also prevents venous thrombosis, as it allows stimulation without the need to move the patient. ‘It is the company’s most promising product,’ says the founder.

The idea was transferred to Europe, specifically to Bizkaia, ‘due to the growth in the region and the benefits and support offered to new companies’. Now the company is taking its first steps towards manufacturing and launching its first product: Skinkeeper, a washable, biodegradable kit designed to prevent bedsores in four areas of the body prone to bedsores.

Looking to the future, Giideba wants to position and expand its products throughout Spain and Europe, and thus consolidate its position in the health sector. At the same time, it is working with researchers in Argentina to develop a new textile that could even replace the one it currently uses.
