Project for the production of green hydrogen

Publicada el agosto 1, 2023marzo 3, 2026 por BasqueScience

It has a contribution of 1.5 million euros from CIEMAT and will be carried out at the Vitoria-Gasteiz School of Engineering. (Autor: Ainhoa López-Abadía Urresti)

The Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) has awarded a 1.5 million euro grant for the offshore wind energy development and green hydrogen production project at the Vitoria-Gasteiz School of Engineering. During the visit by CIEMAT technicians, the vice-rector of the Alava Campus, Manoli Igartua, the director of the School, Zuriñe Gómez de Balugera, and those responsible for the project, Unai Fernandez Gámiz and Ekaitz Zulueta, were present.

The project will be carried out over two years and aims to develop and optimise the technology for the generation of renewable energy, mainly offshore wind and solar photovoltaic energy, in different situations and environments, as well as the production of hydrogen from these sources. To achieve this, a scientific infrastructure will be acquired and installed at the facilities of the Vitoria-Gasteiz School of Engineering to develop and test the techniques required to improve the efficiency of renewable energy generation systems and reduce the cost of hydrogen production from these sources.

In addition, the infrastructure proposed for the project will allow the development of new algorithms based on Artificial Intelligence in order to make the green hydrogen production process more competitive. CIEMAT is a Public Research Organisation attached to the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the General Secretariat for Research, mainly focused on the fields of energy, environment and related technological fields.
